These web pages are a rather 'tongue in cheek' look at our Road Trips through Europe. We hope you enjoy sharing in our travel adventures. For information and advice of a more serious nature that we can give for anyone planning a trip like ours look HERE
Previously on MontebaldoOrBust.com......
The 19th and early 20th century were perhaps the great times for exploration and adventure. Sea routes to the East to India, China, Japan and the Spice Islands; vast portions of the globe were mapped and Everest was conquered. Today there is perhaps only one great adventure still to be surmounted - the fabled northwest Europe to Lake Garda passage in the European Onion. Attempted, only once, in 1969 by a group of Hollywood stars (including Tony Curtis to name but one). The road trip was doomed to failure when they took a right turn in Zurich, instead of a left, by the Swiss National Museum and ended up in Monte Carlo. In 2012 this last great challenge is to be attempted again via the notorious Stelvio Pass and without the aid of additional oxygen. In homage to the first attempt it will again be filmed by Ealing Patios (also available for gardening and landscaping work).
Followed by ........
Europe, the return. The Tour de France was first organized in 1903 to increase paper sales for the magazine L'Auto by making the poor paper boys and girls work at a faster speed. Now delivery boys and girls from all over the world participate each year. We believe that in the age of the internet there is no need to muck about with any of this newspaper (or indeed bicycle) stuff and so, rested from the 2012 Stelvio expedition, we will stage our own Tour de France using only the MX5 with Renault backup and storage solution. We will at no point in time wear yellow jerseys.
And in 2014.......
Well it's been a wet few months, and with little else to do we search ancient texts in search of ideas for our next adventure. We are pleased to announce we have decided on our greatest challenge to date :- 'Trouver le soleil 2014' !!! (if you pardon our French) Mythical object of great power and believed by our ancestors to store enormous energy in the form of heat and light. They called it simply 'The Sun'. Does it really exist ? We intend to find out !!! Extensive research has led us to believe it may be found in the south of France, but will involve a hazardous trip along the fabled 'Route du Soleil' famed for horrendous (and possibly, after the arguments, life ending) traffic jams. Will we succeed. As usual keep tuned in !
2015 - Joint tour with the MXicanS
Stelvio pass - the return ! Teaming up with the MXicanS -experts in touring europe (as far as the channel tunnel at least) we are to make a second attempt at the Stelvio pass again using the north face route. Oxygen tanks have this time been purchased but obviously there will be no room to actually take them with us - these are MX5's you know !
Now in 2017 .... The Wedding Tour
Inspired by a wedding we viewed in St Tropez whilst on the 2013 tour we have decided to have our own European 'Wedding Celebration' tour. This means, of course, that two of our brave team will have to sacrifice their own freedom in 2017 and actually marry each other, otherwise the tour makes no sense. Marvel at the sacrifices we are prepared to make! Gasp in awe as you finally find out which of the brave team members it is !! Join us for the tour in 2017!!!
